EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — The Holy Cross College men's soccer team secured its first conference victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Indiana University Northwest on Wednesday evening.
After a scoreless first half, the Saints struck in the 59th minute when Daniel Alfaro netted the game-winner off an assist from Diego Martinez. The goal marked Alfaro's fourth of the season and gave Holy Cross the edge they needed.
Defensively, the Saints held strong behind goalkeeper Isaias Rubio, who collected four saves to earn the clean sheet. Despite being outshot 11-9, Holy Cross capitalized on their chances and stood firm against late pressure from the RedHawks.
With the victory, the Saints improve to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while IUNW falls to 1-9 on the year.
Holy Cross will look to build on this momentum as they continue conference action this weekend during their SENIOR NIGHT AND ALUMNI WEEKEND against Calumet. Kickoff is set for 5pm, Senior will be walking out 15 minuets prior to game time.
