Saints Fall Late on the Road to Viterbo

La Crosse, Wis. — The Holy Cross College men's soccer team came up just short in a tightly contested conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling 1–0 to Viterbo University.

Despite the setback, the Saints battled for the full 90 minutes, holding the V-Hawks scoreless until the final moments of the match. Goalkeeper Isaias Rubio had an outstanding performance, recording seven saves on the day to keep Holy Cross within striking distance.

Viterbo controlled much of the attacking play, outshooting the Saints 20–5, but the Holy Cross defense stayed organized and disciplined throughout. The match's lone goal came in the 89th minute from Viterbo.

Holy Cross' best offensive looks came from Diego Blount, Wyatt Kernohan, and Fabian Velazquez, each testing the Viterbo back line in the second half. The Saints earned two corner kicks and maintained composure through a physical match that saw four yellow cards issued.

With the result, Holy Cross moves to 8–5 overall and 5–1 in conference play, while Viterbo improves to 8–3–2 and matches the Saints in conference standings.

The Saints will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue conference action, at home, on Wednesday October 22nd against Trinity Christian. Kickoff is set for 7pm!
