Saints Compete at Everybody vs. Cancer Tournament

The Holy Cross College men's tennis team turned in a strong showing at the Everybody vs. Cancer Invitational, competing with grit and earning several key wins across the weekend. On Friday, the Saints got off to a hot start in doubles as Hugh O'Sullivan and Naithaolin Golmei picked up a 6–4 victory, while Thomas Friesen and Matthew Jezyk came through in a dramatic tiebreak, winning 7–6 (8–6). In singles, Oscar Wai pulled off a gritty comeback to defeat Maulouet of Youngstown State, 1–6, 6–4, 10–5, while both Jezyk and Diego Blanco Goytia pushed their opponents to deciding tiebreaks before narrowly falling.

Saturday brought more highlights, with Friesen and Jezyk continuing their doubles success with a 6–2 win, while Wei pushed a tough matchup into a tight 7–6, 6–4 battle. McManus and Wai paired up in doubles for competitive matches, and singles play featured strong efforts from Friesen, Jezyk, Golmei, and Blanco, who all showed fight in challenging matchups.

The Saints closed out the weekend on a high note Sunday. McManus and Wai battled in doubles against tough Toledo opponents, while in singles, Jezyk earned a convincing 6–3, 6–3 win over Albert Mackey (Ch), and Friesen dominated in a 6–2, 6–2 victory. Golmei and Blanco each capped off the weekend with solid performances, highlighted by Blanco's straight-sets win, 6–1, 6–4.

Overall, the Saints walked away with impressive victories and plenty of momentum to carry into the rest of their fall season!

The Saints will take the court again during the ITA Regional Tournament this weekend September 25-27th
