Saints Battle Hard but Fall to Saint Xavier in Conference Matchup

Chicago, Ill. – The Holy Cross College women's basketball team showed grit on the road but ultimately came up short in a 67–52 loss to Saint Xavier University Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center.

Sophmore forward Allie Caldwell led the Saints with a great performance, posting a near double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds in 35 minutes of play. Caldwell also contributed defensively with 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.

Junior guard Laney Hawkins added 8 points, including a crucial three-pointer in the fourth quarter, while Sincere Coleman-Francis and Kaiden Hanley chipped in 8 and 9 points, respectively. The Saints showed strength inside, outscoring the Cougars 22-16 in the paint and grabbing 36 total rebounds to keep the game competitive.

Despite a solid 46.2% shooting performance in the fourth quarter, the Saints were unable to overcome 25 turnovers and a strong rebounding effort by Saint Xavier, who pulled down 41 boards, including 14 offensive rebounds.

Holy Cross falls to 1-5 (0-2 CCAC) and will look to regroup as they continue conference play next week.

The Saints return home to face a tough Trinity Christian team on Wednesday at 5:30 PM. Come out and support!
