Saints Battle to 2-1 Win at Viterbo

La Crosse, Wis. — The Holy Cross College women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 2–1 win on the road against Viterbo University on Saturday afternoon. The result moves the Saints to 4-5–1 overall and 3–1–2 in CCAC play, keeping them in the mix near the top of the conference standings.

Viterbo opened the scoring just before halftime, finding the back of the net in the 42nd minute as the Saints trailed 1–0 heading into the break. Despite the setback, Holy Cross showed resilience in the second half.

The Saints found their equalizer in the 62nd minute when Quinn Pankiewicz stepped up and delivered a crucial goal to even the score at 1–1. From there, Holy Cross continued to push forward, generating several strong scoring chances while the defense and goalkeeper Montserrat Alvarez kept the V-Hawks from regaining the lead.

The game winning goal from the saints comes from Senior Mia Garatoni in the 83rd minute. This play shows just how dedicated the Saints were to take home a win.

Alvarez recorded 2 key saves in the second half after entering just before halftime, while Janiah Juarez made two saves in the opening period. Holy Cross finished with six shots, three of them on goal, compared to eight total shots from Viterbo.
