Notre Dame, Ind. – The Holy Cross College men's soccer team returned to action Tuesday night and secured a 2-1 win over Judson University at Saints Field. With the victory, the Saints improve to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
The Saints wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Anthony Panayiotou found the back of the net in the 5th minute off an assist from Nathan Sanchez, giving Holy Cross the early advantage. Later in the first half, Wyatt Kernohan extended the Saints' lead with a goal assisted by Tristian Alfaro in the 35th minute to make it 2-0 heading into halftime.
Judson responded in the second half with a goal in the 75th minute from Anthony Cordova, but the Saints' defensive unit held strong to preserve the lead. Goalkeepers Isaias Rubio and Logan Kelly combined for 13 saves on the night, keeping the Eagles at bay despite a 31-shot effort from the visitors.
Holy Cross managed 10 shots and one corner kick, while Judson finished with 31 shots and three corners. The Saints played a disciplined match, managing their lead through physical play and solid team defense in the closing minutes.
The Saints will look to carry this momentum into their final match as they continue to battle through conference play on Saturday when they travel to Saint Xavier. Kickoff is set for 2:30PM
